Five minutes after Minions & Monsters ended, my living room looked like a tiny riot had taken place.

One kid was speaking fake Minion language. Another was chasing the dog with a cardboard camera. The youngest had dumped popcorn into the couch and was claiming a monster did it.

So I guess the movie was a success.

What the Kids Thought

The story puts the Minions in old Hollywood, where they get mixed up in making monster movies and, because they are Minions, manage to turn a pretend disaster into a real one.

My kids laughed basically nonstop.

They loved the monsters, the crashing film sets and every joke involving somebody falling down. There is alot of falling down. Like, an impressive amount.

The two main Minions are fun, but I couldnt always tell which one was which. My oldest kept correcting me until I reminded him that I buy the snacks, so maybe let it go.

What the Adult Thought

I liked the old Hollywood setting more than I expected. There are jokes about silent movies, studio bosses and actors trying to look dramatic while everything around them is on fire.

Most kids wont understand those references, but they dont need to. There’s always another explosion or yellow guy getting launched through a wall.

The movie does get loud. Very loud.

Around the halfway point, I started wondering whether every scene needed twenty characters screaming at once. Then the kids started laughing again and I accepted that maybe this movie wasnt made for a woman who had already packed three lunches, answered six PTA messages and cleaned juice off the floor that day.

Myflixer is usually where I look when everybody wants a different movie, but that evening the kids specifically wanted the new Minions. I tried my old Sflix bookmark first and found out it was gone. The site now appears to be working at Sflix.

Would I Watch It Again?

The kids already said yes.

I’m gonna say maybe, but only after buying earplugs and making a strict no-popcorn-on-the-couch rule that nobody will follow.

Minions & Monsters gets 7 out of 10 from me.

It’s silly, colorful and actually has some clever movie-history jokes hiding under all the chaos. The plot is thin and the noise level is criminal, but it kept three children in one room for almost two hours.

Parents know thats basically a miracle.
